About
Sunday, October 3: Kelly Buchger & Harder Bop
7:30pm. Unity of Buffalo, 1243 Delaware Ave., Buffalo (unitybuffalo.org). $10 suggested donation ($5 for students/seniors). Complimentary refreshments.
Bridging jazz genres from hard bop to free, saxophonist and composer Kelly Bucheger performs frequently in Buffalo, leading his quintet "What Would Mingus Do?", the impishly-named "Acme Nipple", and co-leading the trio "The Other Side". He's also a member of the Buffalo Brass and Phil Sims's "Three Brothers & A Distant Cousin". Over the years Kelly has performed with numerous jazz luminaries, including James Carter, John Zorn, Don Menza, Bill Watrous, Bobby Shew, Louie Bellson, Terry Gibbs, Gary Foster, and Bruce Johnstone. His new project "Harder Bop", with Tim Clarke (trumpet), Michael McNeill (piano), Danny Ziemann (bass), and Russ Algera (drums), takes his compositions in new directions - always swinging and exciting, but never predictable....
